Crochet with Helen

Helen towel toppers
Hello my friends! As I told you in my November 30 blog post,  I’ve been teaching the art of crochet to my neighbor Helen for the past few months. And let me tell you she has exceeded any expectations I had about her learning to crochet.

I wanted to show everyone a few of the marvelous things she has made over these past few months.

Minnie Mouse Hats
First off, she made some Towel Toppers,  in less than a week and gave them to her family as Christmas gifts. What’s a Towel Topper? a dish towel with a crochet edging, which allows the towel to hang from a handle in the kitchen. They do come in handy, cause they are always hanging around… Oh that was a bad pun…lol

Helen also made the cute Minnie Mouse hats, which she donated to a charity auction. Adorable, don’t you think?  Furthermore, she made all of the items in the picture below A Chunky yarn Hat, Shawl with a button and a tassel. A market bag complete with strap and inside

pocket, a warm lapghan for chilly evenings, and lastly a variegated ribbed hat with a pom pom.

Although Helen has only four months of crochet experience, one might think she has been crocheting for years. She certainly has been my inspiration to continue crocheting with yarn. I am really enjoying our Sunday afternoons together learning new stitches, trying out new patterns, and helping each other ‘think outside the box’.

Here are a few things I have made over the past several months…

Just a few scarfs that I made for my Mom (ruffled) and my sister, who lives very close to Lake Michigan… Bur, just thinking about the temperature gives me the chills! lol

I also made a shawl using Lion Brand Suede Pattern no. 40515  (Suede yarn discontinued).  I substituted with Bernat Satin in Sea Shell. It turned out great, soft and lightweight.

I hope Helen and I have inspired you today. And if you are thinking about learning to crochet, please do… at least try it… you never know what you’ll be making in four months… lol  Be sure to leave a comment below and have a super day. Until next time… Cari
